European research project

SIRENERGY Project

The SIreNERGY project (Social Innovation in REnewable eNERGY) aims to provide local rural communities with practical experience in developing strategies to improve the integration and deployment of renewable energies.

This project is part of the European Union's objective of climate neutrality by 2050, an objective stemming from the European Green Deal (1) and in line with the commitments made under the Paris Agreement.

Project Actions

Social Innovation in Renewable Energies

The project aims to involve local communities in the development of specific strategies to improve the acceptance and deployment of renewable energies, thereby unlocking the potential that exists in rural areas.

The project also aims to:

1. Integrate renewable energy strategies into local, regional, and national economic development strategies.

2. Integrate renewable energy into the broader supply chains of rural economies, such as agriculture, forestry, traditional manufacturing, and green tourism.

3. Ensure local social ownership by guaranteeing clear benefits from the use of renewable energy as a low-carbon energy alternative for local communities and by involving them in the design, financing, or management process.

4. Increase the involvement of energy consumers in the development of new renewable energy sources.

5. Promote cooperative and coordinated dynamics for the generation of renewable energy projects, taking into account the natural resources of the rural area and all stakeholders involved, as well as other ongoing projects.
